Right now, it might feel hard to make your goals happen, to start, to make the change, to get going, to know what to do.
These are common feelings that my clients have. They feel stuck, unsure, longing, hopeful.
If you start taking action, find the plan that works for you; one day you will be doing it easily within your day to day and look back at the steps that took you there. Wow I did that!
The other day, Susan and I were chatting through and reviewing the progress she had made during our work together.
Susan kept saying: “Oh yea! I forgot I started there.” And “wow I didn’t used to do that”.
She had shown up each step of the way. Worked hard. Pushed through challenges and tricky moments.
When she first started coaching, she felt totally overwhelmed, unsure, and like nothing would ever work for her. She had tried so many times and just not made it happen. She felt discouraged.
Susan decided one day that she was going to make the changes happen. She found a coach with a plan so that she did not have to worry about what to do, how, what to research, how to adjust things, or any of the put it together work. She could just show up and do the things. Cause that was hard enough.
Now, things were not always that easy. Life can bring challenges at any moment. That’s part of living!
She finally had the support and tools to adjust and keep going even when things did get trickier.
She kept showing up, to the point where things felt more and more doable.
The changes she hoped for one day; were now a part of her day to day life.
As we looked back, she remembered the journey along the way.
When you are making a change,
You are living it each and everyday.
You are taking many small steps that build into the big things that you make happen.
And often, those around you will see the changes that you yourself just start to take as part of your day to day.
The weight that you have lifted.
The little changes you make in your habits and weekly routine.
The way that you feel.
The things that you can do.
Your confidence; your comfort in your body, in your clothes; in your abilities.
The way you walk into a room.
Your ability to adapt.
That your breath stays manageable as you go up the hill or stairs.
That you picked up those heavy groceries.
The changes in your body, yourself, your energy.
It can be harder to see & feel your progress while you are in the midst of it.
One day you will go up the stairs with more ease.
You will put on your shoes and socks standing.
You will fit into those pants or that jacket that you loved.
Will lift a weight heavier than you thought you could -and later the next one from that.
You will feel good in your food and health choices without shame or guilt.
You will go out to eat with friends or to a family dinner and feel good in the choices that you make.
You will say yes to the fun activity or social outing.
Will put on the swimsuit or summer outfit and feel okay, maybe even great in it.
The things that now feel the usual will have been things that seemed so hard, unattainable, and difficult.
When reflecting back with clients,
we chat through all the things that they did do. The things that they can do now. The many wins (no matter how small they seem) that they have noted along the way.
So often, my clients say “Oh yea!” Because they forgot the smaller steps along the way. They were so busy just making them happen!
They made happen by continuing to take the small steps that built into the big changes.
You make happen by building brick by brick, puzzle piece by puzzle piece.
That big wall is made with many small bricks.
The crazy jigsaw puzzle with many pieces and steps.
Your goals will happen by continuing to take steps, to build up the bricks -even when it feels hard to.
Your coach is there for that extra accountability, boost, to make a clearer plan, and for the support to keep going through each stage of the journey. So that you can celebrate the bigger wins and all the small ways you show up along the way!
What is a win you have had recently?
